A Meaningful Celebration for IMU International Students at Putra Mosque

IMU University’s Student Services Hub (SSH), in collaboration with the International Students’ Society (ISS) and Muslim Society (MSoc), organised a meaningful Eid celebration at Putra Mosque on 21 March 2026 for international Muslim students who were unable to return home due to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
With the assistance of both student clubs, SSH led the initiative to provide these students with a sense of comfort, belonging, and community during the festive season.
The event took place at Masjid Putra, fondly known as the Pink Mosque, in Putrajaya, bringing together 40 students from diverse countries, cultures, and backgrounds to experience and celebrate Eid in Malaysia in a warm and welcoming environment.
A Dawn of Togetherness: Morning Journey from IMU to Putrajaya
The day began early, with students gathering at IMU Bukit Jalil by 6:30 AM. Despite the early hour, the energy was bright with traditional clothes, cheerful greetings, and that familiar excitement of Eid filled the air.
During the journey to Putrajaya, conversations flowed easily among students who shared memories of Eid back home and hopes for the day ahead.
Experiencing Eid Prayers at Putra Mosque
Upon arrival, students were welcomed by the serene beauty of Putra Mosque, the pink-domed landmark with a serene morning glow. Students took the opportunity to explore the mosque’s courtyard, admire the stunning architecture, and capture dozens of group photos and portraits, each picture echoing the joy of celebrating Eid away from home, yet not alone.
The Eid atmosphere inside the mosque was truly special. The prayer hall was filled with worshippers from across the world, all standing shoulder to shoulder. Students listened to the khutbah with attentiveness and gratitude.
Many later shared how comforting it felt to experience this authentic Malaysian Eid tradition, guided by the Malaysian Muslim community’s hospitality and warmth.

Building Community Through Shared Experiences
After prayers, everyone gathered outside once more to enjoy the festive spirit.
Laughter, reflections, stories of family back home, and the gentle Putrajaya breeze made those post-prayer moments especially meaningful.
Festive Lunch and Celebration at IMU Campus

Around 11:30 AM, the group left Putrajaya and returned to IMU LIT Campus, where a delicious lunch awaited.
The Events Team and volunteers had prepared a special Eid setup with a beautifully decorated photo booth, festive ornaments, and a welcoming dining space that instantly lifted everyone’s spirits. Students enjoyed a hearty meal together, shared their Eid experiences from the morning, and took plenty of photos with the Eid décor.
For many, this was their first Eid away from their home country, yet the atmosphere made it feel far from lonely.

Thoughtful Giveaways
The programme concluded with thoughtful giveaways:
- Cookies,
- Dates, and
- Small Eid gifts
These giveaways brought smiles to everyone’s faces and leaving them with something sweet to remember the day by.

Supporting International Students During Eid
This Eid trip to Putra Mosque was more than just a morning outing, it was a meaningful gesture of care for international students who often must spend festive days far from their families.
The experience beautifully captured the essence of Eid:
- Unity,
- Gratitude,
- Joy, and
- Community
For many who attended, it was not just a celebration, it was a realization that they have a home, a community, and a family in ISS and MSoc here in Malaysia even away from their home.
We hope experiences like these continue to strengthen the bonds among international students and help them feel
- Connected,
- Supported, and
- Truly seen.
