Choosing IMU: A Path to Comprehensive Healthcare Training

I am Lee Yu Ki. From a young age, I have always aimed to contribute to the healthcare industry, and I knew I needed a strong foundation to make that possible. Although I didn’t start as an IMU foundation student, I was drawn to the IMU for its excellent academic reputation and strong emphasis on practical, patient-centered training. IMU’s curriculum balances theory with hands-on experience, preparing students not only to understand the ancient wisdom of Chinese Medicine but also to apply it effectively. The university’s international outlook, diverse faculty, and collaborative partnerships with institutions worldwide also promised a rich, multifaceted education and a global perspective.

Learning and Growth: Memorable Experiences at IMU

Studying at IMU was an inspiring journey filled with both challenges and growth. One of my most memorable experiences was the 28-week internship, during which I handled patients independently. This experience was pivotal for me, as it reinforced the importance of applying theoretical knowledge in real-life scenarios and gave me the confidence to manage patient care directly. IMU’s support in honing both my medical knowledge and my practical skills was invaluable, and it laid a strong foundation for my professional journey.

Applying Knowledge: Building My Practice as a TCM Physician

Now, as a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) physician, I am actively applying the skills and insights I gained at IMU. With the skills and clinical experience acquired, I’ve been able to start my own patient base and build meaningful, trusting relationships with my clients. Integrating TCM principles with my training has enabled me to provide holistic care, which I find immensely rewarding.

Looking Ahead: Staying Simple, Growing, and Helping Others

Looking ahead, my goals remain simple yet impactful. I hope to focus on self-improvement and maintain a commitment to helping as many people as I can within my abilities. Being in the healthcare industry requires ongoing learning, and I intend to keep growing personally and professionally to make a positive difference in my patients’ lives.

Advice for Future IMU Students: Embrace Learning and Compassion

To future IMU students, my biggest piece of advice is to embrace every learning opportunity and seek practical experiences. The foundation you build at IMU will be essential as you step into real-world practice. Develop your patient communication skills early and don’t hesitate to ask questions—it’s how you learn.

Finally, remember that the healthcare industry is as much about compassion as it is about knowledge, so take time to listen to and understand each patient’s unique needs. Focus on growth, stay curious, and let your passion for helping others guide you.
