Healthy Gut, Healthier You: AMSA IMU Leads the Way on National Health Day 2025

On 24 April 2025, the Public and Global Health Department of Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) IMU University hosted the AMSA Malaysia National Health Day 2025, themed “Healthy Gut, Healthier You.”

The event focused on raising awareness on digestive and gut health as well as its links to diet, stress, and lifestyle.

Held at Room 2.07 IMU Broadway and Room 3.05 IMU Lecture Theatre 1, the event featured interactive educational booths, nutritional screenings, Diet chit chat and a yoga session. The educational booths offered insights on common gastrointestinal disorders such as GERD, IBS, and colorectal cancer.

Aside from blood pressure measurement done by AMSA IMU, there were nutritional screenings in collaboration with the IMU Student Dietetics Clinic included BMI and body composition, followed by diet chit chat session.

Sponsored Yakult beverages were distributed as tokens to encourage participation.

Later in the evening, IMU Yoga Club led a stress-relief session focused on gut motility and relaxation techniques.

The event drew engagement from 100 members of the IMU community, reflecting strong interest and impact.

This event strongly reinforced the integration of theoretical public health knowledge with practical health promotion skills. Students had the opportunity to apply their medical, dietetics, and wellness training to real-life scenarios by educating peers and staff on digestive and gut health.

Through basic nutritional screenings such as measuring BP, BMI, body composition analysis as well as interactive education booths, Diet chit chat and yoga sessions, participants not only learned but also actively engaged in preventive health strategies when it comes to digestive and gut health. It enhanced communication skills, built confidence in public engagement, and highlighted the significance of early detection and lifestyle modification in digestive and gut health—all of which align closely with IMU’s outcomes-based education and interprofessional collaboration approach.
