IMU Alumnus and Academic Becomes First Malaysian Elected to World Federation of Chiropractic Executive Committee

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – IMU University proudly celebrates a historic milestone as Wong Yi Kai, a member of the first graduating cohort of the IMU Chiropractic Programme and now a Senior Lecturer of the IMU Chiropractic Programme, has been elected as Secretary-Treasurer of the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC). His election marks the first time a Malaysian has been elected to the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Chiropractic, the highest representative body for the chiropractic profession worldwide.

The election was confirmed during the WFC Board Meeting, where delegates representing national chiropractic associations from around the world elected the organisation’s leadership team for the upcoming term.

As Secretary-Treasurer, Yi Kai will serve on the WFC Executive Committee, contributing to the governance, strategic direction, and financial stewardship of the organisation while helping to advance the interests of the global chiropractic profession.

A Historic Achievement for Malaysia and IMU University

Yi Kai’s election represents a significant milestone for both Malaysia and IMU University. It reflects the growing international recognition of Malaysian chiropractic education and the increasing contribution of Asian leaders to the advancement of healthcare professions globally.

As a graduate of the pioneering cohort of the IMU Chiropractic Programme, Yi Kai’s journey exemplifies the impact of IMU University’s commitment to developing future healthcare leaders. Following graduation, he remained actively involved in academia and professional service, eventually joining the University as a faculty member. Today, he serves as Senior Lecturer, contributing to teaching, curriculum development, clinical education, research supervision, and professional leadership.

His election to the WFC Executive Committee highlights the influence that IMU graduates and academics can have on the international stage and reinforces the University’s mission of producing healthcare professionals who contribute meaningfully to their professions and communities.

From IMU Graduate to Global Leadership

Since graduating as part of the first cohort of the IMU Chiropractic Programme, Yi Kai has established himself as a recognised leader in chiropractic education, professional development, and healthcare governance at both national and international levels.

At IMU University, he has contributed to the growth of the Chiropractic Programme through his roles by supporting curriculum development, clinical education, research supervision, and the advancement of chiropractic education in the region.

Beyond the University, Yi Kai has been actively involved in professional and regulatory leadership. He currently serves asPresident of the Association of Chiropractic Malaysia (ACM)and is a Council Member of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Council, Ministry of Health Malaysia, where he contributes to policy development, professional standards, accreditation, and regulatory oversight of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine sector.

His commitment to advancing healthcare professions extends to workforce and educational development. He serves as a validator for the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Industry Skills Framework (IndSF) – Chiropractic under Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), supporting the development of national competency standards and workforce pathways for the profession.

Internationally, Yi Kai has held several leadership and advisory roles, including serving as a Director of the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC), a member of the WFC Public Health Committee, Board Liaison for the International Chiropractic Education Alliance, and Editorial Board member of the Journal of Chiropractic Education. He was also recently invited to serve as an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE, one of the world’s largest multidisciplinary peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). Through these roles, he contributes to international collaboration, scholarly publishing, professional standards, and the advancement of evidence-informed healthcare.

His election as Secretary-Treasurer of the WFC Executive Committee reflects more than a decade of service to the profession and positions both Malaysia and IMU University to contribute more prominently to the future development of chiropractic education, professional standards, public health, and healthcare integration at the international level.
