Prof Ts Dr Mai Chun Wai, Professor at the Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI), IMU University, was honoured to represent Malaysia as an invited speaker at the 2025 Forbidden City International Pharmacist Conference (FCPC), held from 27 to 29 June 2025 at the Xiong’an Convention and Exhibition Center Hotel, Hebei Province, China.

Now in its 17th edition, the FCPC is one of the most influential pharmacy conferences in the Asia-Pacific region. Guided by the theme “Establishment of Value-Based Pharmacy Service System: Integration, Innovation, Intelligence and Rights,” this year’s conference convened with delegates from over 18 countries and featured key stakeholders from government bodies, academic institutions, hospitals, and pharmaceutical industries. The event aims to drive international collaboration, enhance rational drug use, and promote innovation in pharmacy services.

Prof Mai was one of the few international speakers invited and among only two Malaysian representatives at this high-level forum. His participation for the second consecutive time signifies both personal recognition and the growing influence of IMU on the global healthcare and pharmaceutical education stage.

In his presentations, Prof Mai delivered insights from IMU’s pioneering work in two key areas:

  • “Individualized and Pharmaceutical Care of Targeted Cancer Drugs” – highlighting his research team in precision oncology and the importance of tailored therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcomes.
  • “Pharmaceutical Education and Talent Development” – underscoring the IMU and Malaysia’s commitment to nurturing a future-ready pharmacy workforce through innovative, research-driven education aligned with global best practices.

During the conference, Prof Mai also took part in key networking and strategic dialogue sessions with Chinese and international thought leaders. He extended invitations for future collaborations in the areas of pharmaceutical innovation, education, and health systems strengthening—specifically proposing avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and China. His contribution served to position IMU as a catalyst for regional and international partnerships in the evolving pharmaceutical landscape.

The forum explored how digital health, intelligent pharmacy systems, and value-based care are transforming pharmacy practice worldwide.

Prof Mai’s involvement reaffirms IMU’s leadership role in advancing pharmaceutical sciences, healthcare education, and global engagement. His active presence at international forums like FCPC exemplifies IMU’s vision of “We champion health equity and quality of life for a better world through excellence in education, research, and innovation. We are a leader that adopts a holistic learning approach and global partnerships to nurture professionals, scholars, and policy makers.” by driving innovation, fostering cross-border collaboration, and contributing meaningfully to the global discourse on pharmacy practice.
