IMU Startup Incubator Workshop Series: Nurturing the Next Generation of Student Entrepreneurs

The School of Health Sciences (SOHS), in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy (SOP) and the Industrial Partnership and Engagement (IPE) Office, jointly organised the IMU Startup Incubator Workshop Series. This initiative, aimed at nurturing aspiring student entrepreneurs, took place every Saturday from 3 to 24 August 2024. The workshop series offered a comprehensive platform for students to gain invaluable insights and practical skills in the world of entrepreneurship.

 

The Startup Incubator Workshop Series focused on laying a strong foundation for participants by empowering them with the essential tools needed to transform ideas into viable startups.

Workshop 1

This workshop introduced students to the fundamentals of developing a solid business model, covering key aspects such as market research, crafting a compelling value proposition, and leveraging the Business Model Canvas (BMC) for strategic planning.

Workshop 2

This workshop focused on marketing and growth tactics, equipping participants with startup marketing principles, the importance of brand identity, and digital marketing strategies to effectively position their businesses in competitive markets. This session also offered insights on utilising digital platforms to drive customer engagement and business expansion.

Workshop 3

In this workshop, participants sharpened their pitching and fundraising skills. This session provided hands-on experience in creating compelling business pitches, understanding investor expectations, and navigating the fundraising landscape. Students gained insights on investment process, learning the effective mode of presentation of their ideas to secure startup fundings.

Workshop 4

This workshop explored the essential steps for business setup and the concept of social entrepreneurship. Participants learned about legal structures and regulatory requirements in Malaysia, while also delving into the principles of social entrepreneurship, and its impact-driven goals that distinguish social enterprises from traditional businesses.

The IMU Startup Incubator Workshop Series not only imparted technical and practical knowledge but also fostered a mindset of innovation, creativity, and leadership among the participants. Through interactive sessions and expert guidance, students were encouraged to think critically, collaborate effectively, and apply entrepreneurial skills to real-world challenges.

 

This workshop series is a part of IMU University’s ongoing commitment in nurturing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in its students, empowering them to become forward-thinking leaders capable of launching and growing successful startups which will make significant contributions to the global economy.
