IMU University marked a significant milestone on 21 November 2025 with the celebration of 15 years of advancing education, leadership, and global partnerships in complementary and alternative medicine. The commemorative event, themed “Empowering Care Through a One Health Vision: 15 Years of Empowering Local Leaders and Global Partnerships in Complementary Medicine”, brought together policymakers, academics, healthcare practitioners, alumni, students, and industry partners to reflect on achievements and explore future directions in integrative healthcare.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Janice Chan, followed by the official opening address by Academician Prof Emerita Datuk Dr Asma Ismail. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Goh Cheng Soon from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, who shared perspectives on the role of integrative and Traditional and Complementary Medicine within Malaysia’s healthcare system and the importance of collaborative, patient-centred care.
A plenary session explored the One Health concept from multidisciplinary perspectives. Prof Winnie Chee highlighted the role of sustainable diets in promoting human and planetary health, while integrative animal health was discussed through a panel session featuring Associate Prof Dr Miki Wong Chee May and Shee Yee Lim. These discussions underscored the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.

The afternoon programme featured parallel tracks showcasing diverse applications of integrative care. Topics included the use of Traditional and Complementary Medicine in cancer care by Dr Shuhada YOP Ahmad, mental health and neurological disorders in Traditional Chinese Medicine by Teh Min Jun, and strategies to optimise maternal and infant health by Christine L.S Yap. Clinical practice within the public health system was highlighted by Dr Devanandhini Krisnan, who shared experiences on acupuncture for pain management in Ministry of Health hospitals. Chiropractic and emerging health technologies were represented by Samuel Lee Zhen Yee, who discussed the Gonstead System in clinical practice, and Prof Dr Andy Hsu, who explored future directions in brain health technologies.

The event was especially meaningful with the strong participation of IMU alumni as speakers and contributors, reflecting the lasting impact of IMU University’s educational programmes and its role in developing healthcare leaders.
