Leap of Faith into a Satisfying End

I never expected to be writing this article, but nonetheless, I hope it’ll be a somewhat interesting read. Let’s start off with an introduction, I am Mohamad Niyaz bin Mohamad Husni, and I’ve just graduated from IMU’s Bachelor of Psychology programme, and I like cats. That’s more or less me.

Fortunately, I was requested to share more about my story at IMU, so bear with me a little while longer. In truth, I never initially expected to be here at IMU, but post-pandemic times were confusing, and I was honestly scared during those uncertain times; and so, I latched on to whatever remaining opportunities presented itself in front of me. That happened to be IMU.

I had heard praises about the university from friends and family, so I felt somewhat assured it would be a good option. Thus started my journey at IMU in 2021, being enrolled in the Foundation in Science programme, then continuing my bachelor’s the following year in September.

Reading this far in, you’ve probably realised that I had no real expectations going into IMU, and you would be 100% right, friend. However, I’m happy to report that my overall experiences were genuinely positive (mostly) and a large part of that stems from wonderful lecturers, course mates, and seniors.

Even though our psychology programme is relatively small compared to the other courses here in IMU, I felt a large sense of community and care from those around me.

At times, it felt like the smaller cohorts actually added to the experience as all the lecturers, seniors, and juniors co-existed and mingled more personally with one another.

Of course, credit where credit is due, the IMU psychology programme has vastly talented, intellectual, but most importantly of all, caring lecturers that I’ve personally encountered. I’m confident you’ll be placed in good hands if you ever have the pleasure of working with my lecturers.

As of writing this article, I am currently waiting for employment in a research-based position, which, I’m confident the skills and experience I’ve learned from my lecturers will help guide me forward. If everything pans out the way I hope, I’ll be continuing my Master’s in Clinical Psychology sometime next year, with distant plans of pursuing a Doctorate for sure. My time at IMU has given me a newfound drive for research and assisting others to understand themselves better.

To you, reader, thank you for taking time to read my journey, however summarised it may be. For anyone out there who may be interested in enrolling into the psychology programme or in any programme at all, I only wish it’s what you’ve chosen for yourself. If you can tell yourself every day, “I want to be here, and this what I’m passionate about.”, without a sliver of doubt, be confident that you’re doing the best you can do for yourself at that moment.
