Upon observing the array of qualifications after my name, two MScs, a PhD, certifications from the Royal College, and presently an MSc in Molecular Medicine from IMU School of Pharmacy, individuals frequently enquire, Why such an abundance of degrees? Would you repeat the experience? My response is unequivocal: Absolutely.
Having pursued my studies in London, Singapore, and Hong Kong, I was determined that my subsequent endeavour would offer a distinct experience, both personally and professionally, in addition to its intellectual merits.
I choose IMU due to its esteemed reputation for merging medical and dental education, its robust emphasis on translational research, and its conducive atmosphere for working professionals such as myself. IMU’s MSc in Molecular Medicine enabled me to integrate my background in biomaterials and clinical dentistry with the molecular and cellular sciences propelling contemporary healthcare advancements.
Attending IMU was exceptionally fulfilling. The programme’s adaptability and focus on autonomous, analytical reasoning aligned perfectly with my professional development stage. The academic members and Programme Directors were both helpful and demanding, encouraging me to connect molecular principles to actual clinical issues in restorative dentistry and biomaterials.
The multidisciplinary atmosphere provided me with new ideas and opportunity to engage with medical researchers and doctors outside my typical network. Despite my extensive postgraduate experience, IMU emphasised that learning is perpetual and that significant education encompasses not only a degree but also the network and mindset one cultivates.
I currently hold the position of Associate Professor and Head of the Restorative Dentistry Division at IMU. I direct research initiatives, oversee postgraduate scholars, and maintain my work at the convergence of dentistry, biomaterials, and molecular medicine. The expertise acquired during the completion of this degree, has significantly influenced my research trajectory, namely in the investigation of novel antibacterial materials and bioactive chemicals to enhance patient outcomes.
I highly enjoyed the MSc in Molecular Medicine at IMU School of Pharmacy for its effective integration of theory and practice. The programme aims to elucidate the fundamental molecular causes of diseases, while consistently prompting students to consider how these discoveries can enhance diagnostics, therapies, or preventive measures. The lessons are meticulously organised and aligned with contemporary developments in biomedical research. I particularly valued the molecular medicine and stem cell modules, where the focus extends beyond mere memorisation of pathways to encompass the formulation of pertinent enquiries, the design of significant studies, and the interpretation of authentic results.
The faculty members are accessible and profoundly committed to my development. The atmosphere is collaborative rather than competitive, facilitating the exchange of ideas, the sharing of challenges, and the establishment of research relationships that persist beyond graduation.
Throughout the course, I developed a pivotal theory on building quantum dots to induce wave entanglement, so creating innovative opportunities for controlling biological responses at the tissue engineering level, an accomplishment of which I am truly proud of.
I firmly believe this programme provides a competitive advantage for anyone seeking to excel in research, clinical academia, or the biotechnology sector, equipping participants with information that transcends conventional disciplinary boundaries. And this programme has aspired me to influence the development of future dental scientists and doctors, motivating them to expand the limits of possibility within our discipline.

Like any worthwhile academic pursuit, the MSc in Molecular Medicine at IMU came with its share of challenges. Balancing full-time professional responsibilities with rigorous academic commitments demanded careful time management and personal discipline.
Transitioning from a predominantly clinical and biomaterials-focused background to a curriculum rooted in molecular biology and advanced biomedical science initially felt overwhelming. Concepts such as gene regulation, signal transduction pathways, and experimental design in molecular medicine required not only understanding but deep integration with my existing knowledge base. There were moments of self-doubt and intellectual fatigue, especially during modules that pushed me outside my comfort zone. However, the support from faculty, the flexibility of the programme, and the stimulating discussions with peers helped me persist. In hindsight, these challenges were integral to the growth that the programme ultimately fostered, both academically and personally.
