Biomedical Science Week (BioMed Week) is held annually at IMU University by the Society of Biomedical Science (ISBS). This event is to mark the occasion of International Biomedical Laboratory Science (IBLS) Day. It aims to enhance the visibility of the Biomedical Science programme and raise awareness of the essential contributions of biomedical scientists to the healthcare sector.
BioMed Week 2025 was held on 10 and 11 March 2025. It introduced a refreshed approach to Biomedical Science Week, centered on the theme “Microbiology: From Cells to System,” with the slogan “It’s a Small World After All.” It emphasizes the pivotal role of microbiology in biomedical science, offering broad applications in healthcare. Prior to the main event, pre-events such as BioBazaar, Kimchi Workshop and webinars were implemented to serve as a warm-up for BioMed Week 2025.
Day 1 (10 March 2025)
Day 1 (10 March 2025) took place at the atrium and driveway. The event launch was a vibrant opening ceremony featuring speeches by Associate Dean A/Prof Wong Chiew Yen; Vice President of the School of Health Sciences (SOHS), Dania Alhaid; President of ISBS, Wah Hsu Wen; and Project Leader, Dharsan Shunmugam. A special gimmick session followed the speeches. The day continued with a health talk delivered by Yakult. Various booth games and scientific exhibits were held at the atrium and driveway.




Day 2 (11 March 2025)
Day 2 (11 March 2025)’s venue shifted to the driveway, Level 4 Open Space and Lecture Theatre 1 (LT 1). Booth activities continued as scheduled, while the Secondary School Poster Competition was held concurrently. Students from Chong Hwa Independent High School, Kuen Cheng High School, and Sekolah Seri Puteri Cyberjaya were invited. In addition to participating in the competition, the students were given a campus tour and introduced to the Biomedical Science programme.

Talk on “The Future of Microbiology by Biomedical Scientists”

The event concluded with a talk given by Dr Fabian Davamani Amalraj (in the photo on the left) on the topic “The Future of Microbiology by Biomedical Scientists”. Prize giving ceremony and tokens of appreciation were given afterwards, together with the announcement for lucky draw winners.
Closing remarks were given by Dean of SOHS, Prof Anna Ling Pick Kiong (in the photo on the right) , Society Advisor Dr Tsen Min Tze and Project Leader Dharsan Shunmugam.

Overall, 131 participants from IMU University and 26 secondary school students, along with 3 teacher advisors, attended. Positive feedback was received from the participants. This marks a remarkable success for the event.
