Drawn to IMU’s strong academic reputation and emphasis on holistic education, Varshutha embraced every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. She consistently demonstrated discipline and commitment, earning a place on the Dean’s List and receiving the Book Prize Award for academic excellence.

Her final-year research project, titled “In Silico and In Vitro Screening of Pyridine-Linked Compounds for Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activity,” reflected her growing interest in the scientific foundations of drug discovery. Through this project, she gained valuable experience working with the Schrödinger software suite, which allowed her to perform molecular docking and virtual screening studies.

Varshutha expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to apply advanced computational tools to evaluate the therapeutic potential of novel compounds. The experience was especially fulfilling for her, as it involved exploring possible anti-diabetic agents, an area of great clinical importance. The project not only strengthened her technical and analytical skills but also deepened her appreciation for research aimed at improving patient outcomes.

Beyond her academic achievements, Varshutha actively participated in various student and academic enrichment activities. She contributed to the National Pharmacy Competition 2024 and served as a co-facilitator for the International Summer Programme Workshop: Modelling New Medicines. These experiences allowed her to collaborate with peers and international participants, strengthening her teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. They also provided her with valuable exposure to global perspectives in pharmaceutical science, further preparing her for her transition into the professional field.

After completing her degree, Varshutha began gaining practical experience across different pharmacy settings.

She served as a locum dispenser at Sunway Medical Centre, where she supported hospital pharmacy operations and patient counselling. She then joined the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) as a research assistant, assisting in a PhD project on patient compliance and inhaler techniques.

Currently, she is employed as a pharmacist assistant at Sunway Multicare Pharmacy, where she provides patient counselling, manages inventory, and supports daily operations within a busy community pharmacy setting.

Varshutha’s journey reflects a deep commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement. With aspirations to begin her Provisionally Registered Pharmacist (PRP) training in a hospital setting, she hopes to further develop her clinical skills and contribute meaningfully to patient-centred care.

Her story stands as a reminder that success is built through perseverance, humility, and a genuine desire to grow, which are qualities that define both her journey at IMU University and her path forward in the pharmacy profession.
