The IMU University recently had the privilege of hosting the leadership team of the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic (FICS) for a series of significant meetings, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing sports chiropractic education and practice globally.
FICS Executive Meetings and General Assembly & 2025 ICSC Lower Seminar

The programme commenced with the FICS Executive Meetings and General Assembly, held at IMU University’s Bukit Jalil campus on 13-14 March 2025. FICS President Dr Martin Isaksson led the discussions, focusing on strategic initiatives to strengthen the role of sports chiropractic in athlete care worldwide.
Reflecting on the gathering, Dr Isaksson shared, “Reflecting on our incredible meetings, including the AGM and symposium, I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who made these events successful.”
In conjunction with the meetings, IMU University also hosted the 2025 ICSC Lower Seminar – Malaysia, part of the FICS International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC) programme. The seminar was conducted over two days—14 March 2025 at the IMU Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre (CSSC) and 15 March 2025 at Sunway Resort Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The seminar provided participants with intensive, hands-on training focused on the assessment and management of lower limb sports injuries, reinforcing the essential role of chiropractors in multidisciplinary sports healthcare teams.

FICS Global Symposium 2025
Following the meetings, the FICS Global Symposium 2025 took place on 15-16 March 2025 at Sunway Resort Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The symposium gathered experts and practitioners from around the world and featured renowned speakers, including keynote Dr Antonio Stecco (in the photo on the right), who shared insights into the latest advancements in sports chiropractic and fascia research.

Dr Isaksson highlighted the impact of the symposium, noting, “Our symposium reinforced this through meaningful discussions that will shape the future.”
The symposium was officially opened by YB Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan, Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, who delivered a keynote address.
In her remarks, YB Hannah Yeoh emphasised the importance of supporting national athletes at every level, from grassroots to elite. She highlighted that athletes represent the dedication, strength, and pride of the nation and deserve full access to training, services, and support facilities to help them realise their true potential.
“For this, we need to continue working with established organisations such as FICS to help strengthen our national sports ecosystem, to ensure our athletes are in their peak physical and mental wellbeing to succeed,” she shared.

Adding to the international presence at the symposium was Petra Sörling, President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Board.
Petra participated as a panel speaker in the session titled “Crafting Connections and Building Bridges within the Global World of Sport.” She reflected on the athlete-centered discussions that highlighted the importance of collaboration and inclusivity in bridging diverse sectors and cultures within the sports arena.
“We were privileged to hear valuable insights from an Olympian gymnast, Jeremiah Loo, who enriched our understanding of the athlete experience and the support functions necessary for success. The lessons shared here will certainly enhance our collective mission in supporting athletes worldwide,” she shared.
Janice Chan, Director of the School of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, IMU University, also expressed her pride in hosting the event.
“It was a privilege to welcome FICS and global leaders in sports chiropractic to IMU and Malaysia. Events like these reflect our shared vision of supporting athlete well-being through evidence-based, collaborative care. IMU remains committed to developing practitioners who can thrive in multidisciplinary teams and contribute meaningfully to local and global sports health ecosystems,” she said.
IMU University’s commitment to fostering global partnerships in healthcare education was evident throughout these events. The university extends its appreciation to FICS, the Malaysian National Chiropractic Sports Council (NCSC), and all participants for their contributions to the success of the meetings and symposium.

IMU University looks forward to continued collaboration with FICS to elevate sports chiropractic education and practice in Malaysia and the region, paving the way for chiropractors to play a greater role in multidisciplinary sports healthcare teams.
