IMU Corporate Sustainability
Sustainability at IMU is guided by a clear vision and mission anchored in One Health and planetary health principles. It is not a standalone agenda, but an integrated commitment — advancing human, animal and environmental well-being across education, research and service to safeguard the health of both people and the planet.
As part of our commitment to creating a sustainable campus culture, the University champions zero-waste events. In 2025, the annual IMU Chariofare Charity Run-Carnival became our first fully sustainable event. Features included:
All materials were reused, recycled, or repurposed.
The Planetary Health & Sustainability Zone created better awareness on sustainability, One Health, and Planetary Health.
Paper seed medals replaced conventional ones and 101.2 kg of old medals were collected and recycled under a repurpsing programme.
We embrace the One Health philosophy, ensuring that all our initiatives are guided by an understanding that human, animal, and environmental well-being are closely intertwined.

Developed in 2023, our One Health Framework forms the foundation for how we advance education, research and community engagement at IMU. It integrates human, animal and environmental health into a cohesive approach that shapes how we teach, innovate and serve.

In support of our One Health direction, we have expanded our offerings to cover areas in food science innovation and veterinary medicine. These initiatives strengthen the integration of human, animal and environmental health—advancing food safety, sustainability, animal wellbeing and the management of emerging diseases—while reinforcing our commitment to a holistic, interdisciplinary approach.
Our holistic approach, guided by the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ensures that health, equity, and sustainability remain central to IMU’s community efforts.
Through the IMU DiaBEAT-IT Programme, over 800 community members have benefited from diabetes screenings and health education, while 383 students and staff gained experiential learning in preventive healthcare and chronic disease management.
Our child protection advocacy initiatives, including seminars, bystander intervention training, and the “Include & Protect” Programme, support vulnerable and differently-abled children, promoting equity and inclusion.
IMU events continue to integrate sustainable materials and practices, embedding environmental responsibility across our community engagement activities.

Our impact goes beyond outreach, with seven active community-engaged research projects currently driving meaningful, real-world change.
