Sustainability

Where Sustainability Meets Impact

Sustainability at IMU is guided by a clear vision and mission anchored in One Health and planetary health principles. It is not a standalone agenda, but an integrated commitment — advancing human, animal and environmental well-being across education, research and service to safeguard the health of both people and the planet.

Green Campus Initiatives

As part of our commitment to creating a sustainable campus culture, the University champions zero-waste events. In 2025, the annual IMU Chariofare Charity Run-Carnival became our first fully sustainable event. Features included:

Zero Waste Event

All materials were reused, recycled, or repurposed.

Interactive Learning

The Planetary Health & Sustainability Zone created better awareness on sustainability, One Health, and Planetary Health.

Eco-friendly Medals

Paper seed medals replaced conventional ones and 101.2 kg of old medals were collected and recycled under a repurpsing programme.

One Health, One Planet

We embrace the One Health philosophy, ensuring that all our initiatives are guided by an understanding that human, animal, and environmental well-being are closely intertwined.

Operationalising One Health education

Developed in 2023, our One Health Framework forms the foundation for how we advance education, research and community engagement at IMU. It integrates human, animal and environmental health into a cohesive approach that shapes how we teach, innovate and serve.

Developing a transdisciplinary ecosystem

In support of our One Health direction, we have expanded our offerings to cover areas in food science innovation and veterinary medicine. These initiatives strengthen the integration of human, animal and environmental health—advancing food safety, sustainability, animal wellbeing and the management of emerging diseases—while reinforcing our commitment to a holistic, interdisciplinary approach.

Community Impact

Our holistic approach, guided by the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ensures that health, equity, and sustainability remain central to IMU’s community efforts.
