Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

Over the last 15 years, the number of childhood deaths has been cut in half. This proves that it is possible to win the fight against almost every disease. Still, we are spending an astonishing amount of money and resources on treating illnesses that are surprisingly easy to prevent. The new goal for worldwide Good Health promotes healthy lifestyles, preventive measures and modern, efficient healthcare for everyone.

At IMU, we have five project themes under this UNSDG as we continue to be committed to promote good health and well-being within our communities.

Pro Health: Nurturing General Health and Hygiene Awareness

We believe that education awareness is the first step towards a more health and hygiene conscious society. Therefore, it is important we continue to nurture awareness in these areas in our collaborations with our community partners. Below are some of the projects conducted under this project theme.

MHM: Mental Health Matters

Mental health is an important aspect of a person’s well-being which is often unseen and neglected.

With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting so many of us, it is even more crucial to address the issue of mental well-being within our community, not just for the underprivileged communities in our homes, but even staff, students, and everyone around us.

Therefore, IMU has adopted intervention on mental health as one of the key project theme under UNSDG 3.

Let’s Talk Medicine: Medication Safety

In the many years of engaging with communities, especially institutions such as homes for the elderly, welfare homes for children, homes for the disabilities, as well as NGOs working with community of people with Alzheimer’s Disease, we noticed that the management of medication are relatively poor.

Therefore, it is important to continue to educate individuals, as well as caregivers on proper management of medication, to prevent any accidents in the future.

CHSI: Community Health Screening and Intervention

Early diagnosis and intervention are key in managing any health issues we face. In many of the communities that we work with, lack of access to proper health screening, hence limiting their opportunity for early diagnosis and intervention which is crucial for an effective and timely intervention. IMU CE will also look at supporting not just screening but providing primary intervention to the underserved communities.

SHEA: Sexual Health Education for Adolescents

As part of the District Partnership Initiative with the Ministry of Health, specifically with the Negeri Sembilan State Health Department, IMU has developed a programme to educate the adolescents around Negeri Sembilan on sexual health education.

We are looking to expanding the programme to more communities beyond Negeri Sembilan, especially the community partners around the Klang Valley as well.
