Overview

ICE advocates faculty development to ensure consistency of students’ learning experience based on the university’s learning model and to meet the changing needs of health care services.

Over 70 faculty development programmes (FDP) are conducted annually exclusively for IMU faculty members, ranging from workshops, webinars, plenaries, expert clinic sessions, forums and HPE journal club. The sessions are facilitated by both IMU experts and visiting professors, mainly from IMU’s partner schools. Additionally, the Visiting Professorship Programmes at IMU University enable renowned experts in health professions education to share their expertise in various topic for the faculty to apply it in the regional context. In addition, these experts work collboratively with experts within IMU to facilitate hands-on workshops in various aspects of health professions education.

Roles of Faculty Members

FDP are developed and designed based on Faculty Competency Assessment Tool (Fac-CAT). The FDP offered are mapped to the 8 roles of faculty members based on Fac-CAT.

ICE’s faculty development activities are categorised as follow:

Mandatory Programmes
The workshops listed below are the compulsory workshops for all IMU faculty members:

  • Fundamentals of Teaching and Learning
  • Small Group Learning Facilitator Training

  • Clinical Education Workshop (CEW is only for those involved in Clinical Teaching)

Teaching and Learning Strategies
Focuses on effective pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning, including problem-based learning, clinical teaching, experiential learning, and learner-centred instructional strategies across classroom and clinical settings.

Assessment and Feedback
Covers the design, implementation, and quality assurance of assessments, including blueprinting, construction of high-quality test items, designing assessment rubrics, standard-setting methods, OSCEs, AI-resilient assessment, and effective feedback to support learning and performance.

Research
Develops faculty capacity in educational research, with emphasis on research methodology in health professions education, quantitative and qualitative study design, data analysis, scholarly writing, and dissemination of findings.

Curriculum Development
Addresses principles and practices of curriculum design, review, and evaluation, including outcome-based education, values-based education, alignment of learning outcomes, teaching activities and assessment, and curriculum mapping.

Professionalism and Leadership
Enhances professional values, ethical practice, communication, teamwork, and leadership competencies, preparing faculty to lead educational initiatives, manage change, and serve as role models in academic and clinical environments.

Technology-Enhanced Learning
Builds faculty capability to integrate technology and artificial intelligence into teaching, assessment, and research through online and blended learning, digital tools, and emerging educational technologies.

Ronald Harden Visiting Professors & Visiting Professors sessions
A series of sessions led by distinguished Visiting Professors, aimed at advancing excellence and innovation in health professions education through expert sharing and scholarly engagement.

Webinars and HPE Journal Club
Provide open and accessible platforms for professional and scholarly engagement through online webinars and structured journal club sessions. These activities feature expert-led discussions and critical appraisal of current literature in health professions education, and are open to faculty, students, and the wider public to promote knowledge sharing, evidence-informed educational practice, and academic discourse.

We also offer the workshops below upon request for IMU University’s faculty members, departments, or schools to address specific academic or professional development needs.

Workshop content, format, and duration can be tailored according to institutional priorities and participant profiles. Workshops are offered subject to identified need and resource availability. To request a workshop, please write to us with the proposed topic, target participants, preferred dates, and preferred mode of delivery. Our team will review the request and follow up accordingly.
