Workshop Overview:

A standard is a conceptual boundary on the true-score scale between acceptable and non-acceptable performance. There is no consensus on any one method as the ultimate option in standard setting (SS). The most appropriate standard setting procedures are Angoff Method for written test (MCQ) and Borderline Regression Method (BRM) for clinical examination (OSCE). An effort to implement SS is to improve the quality and transparency of assessment to make it more credible and defensible for logical decisions. There are some global challenges to any standard setting procedures. Current workshop designed for online delivery will address those challenges considering the basic key concepts in standard setting in medical education. In medical education practice a pass score of 50% cannot sustain any more in a defendable and credible assessment for discriminating between the good and the poor performing students. To consider options for a better logical decision, standard setting is a way forward

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define the common standard setting methods practiced in medical education.
  • Perform the Modified Angoff procedure for written test of SBA/OBA.
  • Perform the BRM to determine the cut-off score in clinical test of OSCE.
