Synopsis
This workshop explores the appropriate teaching and learning methodologies that cater to adult learners in postgraduate programmes. Although the concept of andragogy may be relevant to learners at all levels of maturity, the concept can be largely based on the 5 assumptions about the characteristics of adult learners as defined by Malcolm Knowles – i. Self-concept, ii. Past learning experience, iii. Readiness to learn, iv. Practical reason to learn and, iv. Motivation to learn. In this workshop, participants will be instructed on the method of engagement appropriate to adult learners as well as the suitable forms of assessment.
