Self Determination Theory (SDT) is a psychological theory forming a broad framework for understanding the psychological needs of both students and teachers in educational settings. This well-established theory is well-positioned to facilitate students’ intrinsic motivation and well-internalized motivation and well-being. The significant gaps between dominant policies and practices in our own educational institutions are explored in relation to SDT are further discussed in this journal club.
