Overview:-

As quoted by Stephen Hawking, “Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history. Unfortunately, it might also be the last unless we learn how to avoid the risks.”

As with any technical advancement, the ethical implications of AI use in HPE must be acknowledged and predicted, so that it can be used without jeopardising critical ethical values. This session focuses on the ethical challenges we can confront in HPE as we encounter and use AI in our teaching and learning, excessive data gathering that is irrelevant and risks student identity and privacy are some of the critical ethical concerns that have been discovered in the literature. Another ethical challenge is obtaining full consent for the data obtained from students. Algorithm bias and delineating responsibility, accountability, blame, and credit for AI development, are all ethical considerations we need to be aware of. While using AI, we must also consider its ethical implications on autonomy and beneficence. Overreliance on technology, a need for more personalisation, and a one-size-fits-all strategy that may leave some students behind are professional factors to consider when using AI.

In this session, we will discuss the ethical considerations in the use of AI in education and the impacts on the professional and personal development of both students and educators.
