The International Medical College (IMC) was established in Kuala Lumpur by the then Minister of Education, YB Datuk Amar Dr Sulaiman Haji Daud. This was a pioneering effort involving a private medical training institution representing a totally new concept of international partnership for the twenty-first century. Initially, the college had five Partner Universities: • University of Aberdeen • Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland • University of Glasgow • University of Liverpool • University of Dundee

A Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programme was offered to replace the BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy. The MPharm is a newly introduced tertiary qualification in the UK and replaces all BSc Pharmacy undergraduate courses as of October 1997. The MPharm is an undergraduate degree. Pioneer class of medical students and pharmacy students graduated from the Partner Universities.

IMU launched Medical Scholarships amounting to RM 1 million. Four scholarships are offered annually, each costing RM250,000. These would be offered for the September intake of each year.

IMU holds “Self-accreditation status” following the announcement made by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). IMU is one of the eight (8) universities that received the coveted award. The self-accreditation status entitles a higher education provider (HEP) to accredit its programmes except for programmes that require accreditation and recognition of the relevant professional body.

IMU launched its Wellness programme on 11 May 2017 to promote overall wellness amongst the staff and students of IMU. This was launched by Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia, His Honourable Dato’ Seri Dr Hilmi Bin Haji Yahaya. He also presented the university with the “Kafeteria Sihat” (Healthy Cafeteria) and “MyBeSS” awards for its Pandan Serai Café. The Seremban Diabetes (SeDia) Cohort Study was officially launched by His Royal Highness Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
