In IMU BSc (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Chemistry programme, drama presentation or dramatisation has been used as a cooperative teaching-learning strategy with first year students on the subject related to ethics in laboratory safety and scientific research.  During the presentation, the students are given the opportunity to dramatise stories in laboratory settings and  explore the ethical dilemmas and arguments in relation to chemical and laboratory safety. The process of learning through dramatic play cover important aspects of training including development of self-confidence, and enhancement of group relations, cooperative work and non-verbal communication skills.

Hear from Our Community

Within the course, I was able to build a strong foundational understanding of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Physical/Inorganic/Organic Chemistry modules that enable me to utilise in the working environment today. The theoretical and practical exposure on both pharmaceutical and chemistry during my degree assisted me to understand my task even better.

IMU provides a good research culture that promotes inter-disciplinary research collaboration with local and internationally renowned scientists. I am grateful to IMU for all the opportunities and support IMU has invested in me. I believe this is so for all other academicians as well.

I think that the Pharmaceutical Chemistry programme lays the perfect foundation for probably any career line you wish to pursue in the field of pharmaceuticals, be it as a pharmacist, a chemist or a sales representative. While being primarily a chemistry-based degree, it still provided glimpses, sometimes very elaborate, on the multifaceted pharmaceutical industry.

My final semester in IMU has helped me visualise a clearer picture of the working environment due to the attachments and hands-on experience. Through my community pharmacy placement, I was able to learn valuable soft skills that cannot be taught through the books which helped me tremendously in my personal development. On top of the strong academic foundation given by the remarkable lecturers of IMU, these external challenges I faced has also helped me to further enhance my knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The industry engagement activities and industry visit conducted in the different semesters of my study so far have been nothing short of eye-opening and very informative. I always look forward to attending any talks by the guest speakers from the industry and experience sharing sessions, as I feel inspired and motivated to follow in their footsteps. The initiatives taken by our lecturers enabled my learning process to be more meaningful as now I have a clearer vision of where I want to be after I graduate.

I firmly believe that the knowledge and abilities gained through the Master in Pharmacy Practice (MPP) programme will enable me to become a well-rounded future pharmacist with a set of competencies that are both desirable and necessary. By increasing my understanding of the various pharmacy services available in Malaysia, the MPP programme will contribute to the long-term improvement of society’s health and well-being.

I have been fortunate to be offered a position in the In-Licensing Department of Duopharma Innovation Sdn Bhd for my internship. After my internship, I managed to secure a working position in the Analytical Department of the same company, in which I have a great interest in.

I was able to cope with my tasks at work and I believe one of the most important reasons is the basic knowledge that I learnt during my Pharmaceutical Chemistry degree. I am very grateful for the diversified modules in my degree programme which prepares me with wide knowledge to cater for more opportunities.

The pharmaceutics modules together with the industrial attachment was an eye-opening experience for us to have a better understanding of how a pharmaceutical company operates. We were exposed to the departments, such as research and development, production, quality control, etc.
