The course discusses the transmission of diseases between animals and humans and develops strategies to prevent and control disease outbreaks. The programme also helps us optimise animal breeding and production practices, ensuring a safe and sustainable food supply.
Upon programme completion, you will have the knowledge and abilities necessary to pursue a wide range of exciting careers.
Apply the core concepts and relevant technologies in the practice of bioveterinary science profession.
Lead multidisciplinary teams professionally in a career-appropriate industry.
Positively impact the ecosystem by improving the quality of life and well-being of animals, humans, and the environment.
Life-long learners who engage in continual professional & self-development.
Methods of curriculum delivery include plenaries, laboratory practicals, small group teaching (Problem based-learning and Tutorials), workshops, computer-aided learning (CAL), seminars, presentations, industrial visits, video reviews, internships, guided reading and portfolio as well as original and independent research work.
The University has PhD qualified academic staff with teaching and research experience, and highly experienced and skilled clinicians in the field of veterinary science.
Students will be assessed through their class tests, practical reports, workshops, portfolios, projects, logbooks, written reports, presentations, dissertations and end-of-semester examinations.
Industrial placements for Bioveterinary Science students will be offered in Sem 6 and this will give students the chance to obtain crucial job experience and employability skills prior to graduation. Students will be given the freedom to choose their placements according to their interest.
The medium of instruction is English. Students who come from a system of education in which the medium of instruction is not English are strongly recommended to improve their proficiency in English by making their own arrangements to attend additional English Language classes before entering the IMU.
It is compulsory for students to attend a course in Bahasa Malaysia as the national language is used in both community health work and the practice of medicine in Malaysia.
The Bachelor of Science in Bioveterinary Science (Honours) degree is awarded by IMU. Those who transfer to the partner university will be awarded a degree from the partner university.
Graduates with a degree in Bioveterinary Science can start their career in entry-level positions such as veterinary assistant, research assistant, or laboratory technician. Graduates can also pursue a career in research as a scientist or in academic or industry positions. With additional education and experience, graduates can pursue a career as a veterinarian.
