From Curiosity to Clarity: How IMU Shaped My Journey

IMU University was more than just a place of academic pursuit—it became a cornerstone of my personal transformation. It was here that I experienced holistic growth: intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Over the course of two and a half years, I evolved not only as a student but also as a friend and, most importantly, as an individual. The unwavering support and guidance of my lecturers and peers in the Psychology programme played a pivotal role in this journey, and for that, I will always be deeply grateful.

My IMU journey began in February 2022, fuelled by curiosity and a desire to explore the human mind. I chose IMU for its reputation as a centre of excellence in healthcare education, but I had little idea on just how profoundly it would shape my path. Like many students, I encountered moments of self-doubt, elation, and introspection. These experiences became milestones of growth—each one pushing me to define my values, refine my purpose, and persist in the face of challenges.

By January 2025, I had completed my degree in Psychology with First Class Honours. The long hours spent on assignments, presentations, exams, and my thesis culminated in a result that reflected more than just academic achievement—it was a testament to resilience, discipline, and support. Aristotle once said, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.” I came to realise that in an environment like IMU, where community and mentorship are embedded into every experience, that bitterness is made bearable—and even sweet—by the people who walk alongside you.

What Am I Doing Now?

Today, I apply the knowledge and skills I gained at IMU in a corporate setting, working as a Talent Acquisition Associate at one of Malaysia’s largest telecommunications companies. My Psychology background gives me a unique advantage in understanding organisational behaviour, practicing active listening, and identifying not only technical capabilities but also cultural alignment and growth potential in candidates.

Contrary to popular belief, a Psychology degree doesn’t confine one to clinical or mental health professions. Its principles are deeply embedded in everyday life and work. Psychology equips you with the tools to understand, connect with, and uplift those around you—no matter the industry. For anyone who sees the good in others and seeks to make meaningful change, Psychology is more than a degree—it’s a lens that reshapes how you see the world, and in turn, how the world responds to you.
