Embarking on the Master of Counselling programme at the IMU University has been a transformative journey, one that has not only enriched my professional skills but also fostered significant personal growth. Balancing the demands of parenting three children, a full-time job, and rigorous academic pursuits has been challenging, yet this journey has become a grounding force during difficult times. Navigating the complexities of balancing family, work, and academic commitments has provided ample opportunities for reflection and self-discovery.
Through moments of exhaustion and overwhelm, I have learned to lean into the resilience cultivated through my studies, drawing strength from the knowledge that I am working towards a meaningful goal. This journey has taught me invaluable lessons in time management, prioritisation, and self-care, fostering a deeper sense of resilience and perseverance within me.
Moreover, engaging with the diverse perspectives and experiences of my peers and lecturers at IMU has broadened my understanding of the human experience, enriching my personal and professional growth. Lecturers at IMU are not only highly knowledgeable but also incredibly supportive and generous. They bring a wealth of real-world experience into the classroom, which has been instrumental in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Their supervision and guidance have been pivotal in my development as a counsellor. They encouraged open discussions, critical thinking, and provided personalised feedback, which significantly enhanced my understanding of complex counselling concepts.
