From Curiosity to Career: MEDx Talk 2025 Inspires Young Medics

The IMU University recently hosted MEDx Talk 2025, a national-level event aimed at inspiring and guiding students interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Held at IMU’s Bukit Jalil campus on 11 May 2025, the event welcomed over 60 participants from universities and schools across Malaysia, including Monash University, UCSI, Sunway, and several secondary institutions.

Organised by a student committee under the guidance of Dr Thirupathirao Vishnumukkala, MEDx Talk was led by Tishalene Shashi Kumar as the Director of Academics, along with her executives Nithiyaasree Thangapandi and Kyel Cin Minn Maung. The event featured a series of engaging speaker sessions and interactive clinical activities.

Esteemed guest speakers included Prof Nilesh Kumar Mitra, Dr Ravindran Vythilingam, Dr Nithiyah Maniam, and A/Prof Puneet Agarwal, who shared invaluable insights and real-world experiences from their diverse medical backgrounds.

Participants also had the opportunity to engage in an online “Meet the Seniors” segment, where they interacted with IMU alumni and senior students currently studying abroad.

The session provided a glimpse into medical education pathways and experiences in universities such as the University of Manchester and Western Sydney University.

In the afternoon, hands-on activity booths allowed participants to explore clinical skills in neurology, cardiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, and gastroenterology. These sessions were particularly well-received for their interactive and practical approach.

The event successfully achieved its goal of exposing young minds to the realities and rewards of a medical career. Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the event as “engaging,” “eye-opening,” and “motivating.”

Despite minor logistical challenges, the organising team demonstrated strong teamwork and commitment.

Suggestions for future improvement include enhanced volunteer coordination and extended time for activities.

MEDx Talk 2025 proved to be more than just an academic event—it was a launchpad for Malaysia’s future medical professionals.
