Meet Our Partner Universities
Our Industrial Partners
The curriculum structure is constantly updated to meet the ever-changing industries’ needs and includes research-led teaching to deliver evidence-based knowledge and practice in the industry. Students will have the opportunity to undergo industrial training in the related sectors in their final semester. They will also be able to collaborate with industry or/and researcher in realted project in their final year.
Our academic members are highly qualified and experienced in different disciplines. The academic community of IMU pursues and achieves excellence in a wide range of research activities.
IMU also provided ample opportunities for clinical training and experiential learning. During my time at IMU, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) practical sessions allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. From medication dispensing and patient counselling to medication reconciliation and therapeutic monitoring, these hands-on experiences equipped me with the practical skills necessary for success in hospital pharmacy practice.
Amanda Tan Yee Mun
Alumna
IMU provides a good research culture that promotes inter-disciplinary research collaboration with local and internationally renowned scientists. I am grateful to IMU for all the opportunities and support IMU has invested in me. I believe this is so for all other academicians as well.
Dr Mai Chun Wai
Alumnus
My final semester in IMU has helped me visualise a clearer picture of the working environment due to the attachments and hands-on experience. Through my community pharmacy placement, I was able to learn valuable soft skills that cannot be taught through the books which helped me tremendously in my personal development. On top of the strong academic foundation given by the remarkable lecturers of IMU, these external challenges I faced has also helped me to further enhance my knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Marilyn Tee Cheng Ling
Alumna
The industry engagement activities and industry visit conducted in the different semesters of my study so far have been nothing short of eye-opening and very informative. I always look forward to attending any talks by the guest speakers from the industry and experience sharing sessions, as I feel inspired and motivated to follow in their footsteps. The initiatives taken by our lecturers enabled my learning process to be more meaningful as now I have a clearer vision of where I want to be after I graduate.
Sarannya A/P Balakrishnan
Alumna
The pharmaceutics modules together with the industrial attachment was an eye-opening experience for us to have a better understanding of how a pharmaceutical company operates. We were exposed to the departments, such as research and development, production, quality control, etc.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours programme uses an innovative curriculum developed entirely by the IMU School, completed in four years (8 semesters), and is undertaken in Malaysia. Credit transfer options are also available for this. The curriculum is largely based on Body Systems, and integrates the study of these systems in health and disease with the study of drug treatment. An entire semester in the fourth year is devoted to research and another semester to supervised practise.
Semester contents are available in the programme brochure [Download Brochure]
Designed around a progressive increase in student-centred and self-directed learning, and a corresponding decrease in didactic and teacher-centred activity
Largely based on body systems: Integrates the study of these systems in health and disease with the study of drug treatment
Progressive development of skills and competencies using simulations and supervised practice
Systematic exposure to community, hospital and industrial pharmacy, culminating in extended clinical pharmacy placements
Devotion of an entire 4th Year Semester to research aimed at inculcating rigour and scientific ethos
The medium of instruction is English. Students who come from a system of education in which the medium of instruction is not English are strongly recommended to improve their proficiency in English by making their own arrangements to attend additional English Language classes before entering IMU.
It is compulsory for students to attend a course in Bahasa Malaysia as the national language is used in both community health work and the practice of medicine in Malaysia.

Is it difficult to secure PRP training? What is the waiting period for graduands to start PRP training? What personal qualities are helpful?
All sectors of pharmacy provide PRP training.
The numbers of posts depends on many of the factors described under ‘Does Malaysia have enough pharmacists? What is the outlook for pharmacists in Malaysia?’ (see above)
The waiting period depends on the sector, the number of posts, and when (during the year) these posts become vacant.
The exact number of Ministry of Health positions, and when these become available is not explicitly stated.
The School helps to notify graduands on the availability of PRP postings from KKM and industry partners. Briefings by the representatives from KKM and partners on the application and opening of training are arranged from time to time to prepare the graduating cohorts.
Individuals need to continually enhance their marketability and competitiveness for the job market. They should –
become familiar with PRP settings, choices; regulations and application process
construct/update their curriculum vitae
learn to write application letters, do well at interviews
commit to ongoing learning and profession development
continually develop their competence, including communications skills, leadership
ensure that they courteous, polite and thoughtful of others
You can apply using forecast or actual results.
