Learn About Our Achievement & Engagement Activities

The International Medical University (IMU) held its first Our Society, Adults and Youths (Our S.A.Y) conference held at its campus in Bukit Jalil. This is Malaysia’s first public conference organised by youths (youths of IMU) for youths which reached out to parents, youths, educators and mental health practitioners to address pressing mental health issues faced by our youths. Rising to the call of the nation to address youths’ mental health, the IMU Department of Psychology, Psychology Club and IMU Community Engagement in collaboration with Dignity for Children Foundation have taken a proactive step to promote in-depth awareness of the aforementioned mental health and social issues. The conference incorporated four major contemporary issues faced by society, namely, depression and anxiety, bullying and cyberbullying, substance abuse and addiction and also healthy relationships and harm reduction. A book on Practical Guide to Promoting Social Participation in Seniors – A Community-based Approach by Dr Teoh Gaik Kin was selected to be highlighted in the PULSE- a bulletin published by University Malaya tri-annually.

Hear from Our Community

Upon completing two semesters in Master of Counselling, I am surprised with the number of skills and knowledge I have gained throughout my journey, not just towards becoming a professional counsellor but also as a person. Knowing there will be more challenges ahead, I am prepared to give my best in order to serve the public in the near future.

The learning I have experienced has been very rich and meaningful as I continuously gain more insight into the human experience. This experience has allowed me to go through the process of a deeper sense of awareness as I learn more about myself and my family of origin. I feel more ready to embrace myself and others gently and authentically.

Student

I have witnessed my tremendous growth, which comes linearly in both personal and professional aspects. My awareness of introspection and ability to build connections with people has improved vastly and were reflected during my practice in counselling skills. While the journey has been bumpy at times, the support gained from my beloved classmates and lecturers have become my primary strength to proceed further.
