Rethink Health, Redefine Food

1

IMU’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Food Science Innovation is a future-ready programme created with the food industry, for the food industry. It blends classroom learning with a full year of real-world experience through our 2U1i work-based learning model, ensuring that students graduate with the assurance of being work-ready and employable.

Built on the values of S.I.H.A.T. (Sustainable, Innovative, Healthy, Affordable, Tasty), the programme inspires students to create smart, nutritious, and sustainable food solutions. Thanks to IMU’s solid foundation in healthcare, students will also learn how food connects to health and our planet.

Whether you dream of joining the food industry or becoming an entrepreneur in your own venture, this programme equips you with the skills, experience, and confidence to make a difference in healthy living through food innovation.

Global Leadership Scholarship – From RM15,000 Upwards
A RM15,000 Global Leadership Scholarship is available, with an additional RM10,000 offered only to students joining the programme in September 2026.

Why Study Food Science Innovation at IMU?

01

Work-Based Learning Through the 2U1i Model

IMU’s 2U1i (2 years in university + 1 year in industry) work-based learning model structure connects academic learning with real-world experience. The first two years feature a curriculum developed in collaboration with industry experts, ensuring that students acquire the most relevant and practical knowledge. This solid academic foundation prepares students for the challenges they will face in the future work force. In their final year, students transition into the industry, gaining hands-on experience in market research, product development, and commercial pitching. This combination of academic study and industry immersion not only boosts employability but also creates a talent pipeline of graduates ready to make an immediate impact in the industry.

02

Contributing to planetary health & S.I.H.A.T

IMU’s Food Science Innovation programme emphasises planetary health, integrating human, animal, and environmental well-being through food innovation. Students are trained to develop products that reflect the S.I.H.A.T. values (Sustainable, Innovative, Healthy, Affordable, Tasty), addressing global issues in food security, sustainability, and public health, while promoting a healthier planet.

03

Flexible Elective Pathways Aligned with Career Opportunities

Students have the option to explore one of four specialised elective pathways, which are Sustainability, Regulatory Affairs, Sensory and Consumer Study, and Food Processing Technology. These tracks provide students with the flexibility to focus on their areas of interest and prepare for diverse career paths in the food industry, ensuring they remain adaptable and well-prepared for evolving market needs.

04

Comprehensive Skill Development with an Interdisciplinary Approach

Students gain a diverse skill set in food innovation, nutrition, entrepreneurship, and marketing. The curriculum, developed in partnership with industry leaders, ensures students acquire practical, up-to-date knowledge that directly aligns with market demands, enhancing their employability. IMU’s expertise in nutrition and dietetics further allows students to connect food science with real consumer needs, preparing them to address both local and global food sector challenges.

05

Modern Facilities and Learning Environment

IMU offers a well-equipped learning environment, including the Food Science Innovation Laboratory, designed to support hands-on learning, research, and product development. Students gain experience with the tools and technologies currently used in the food industry, ensuring they are prepared for the technical demands of the field.
